DOE Office of Science announces award for NOME
Prof. Field has been been awarded funding for research as part of the U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Award (ECA) program. The research entitled, “Precipitate Stability and Helium Trapping in Advanced Steels” will focus on the complex synergies between tailored precipitate microstructures and the damage imparted via displacements and transmutations in steels used in future fusion reactor devices.

DOE Nuclear Energy announces award for NOME
Prof. Field has received announcement of the award of his Nuclear Energy University Program proposal titled, “Development of a High Throughput Nuclear Materials Synthesis Laboratory.” The project will allow for the acquisition of equipment to establish rapid materials consolidation and modification to complement the already established facilities at the University of Michigan, including the world-class Michigan Ion Beam Laboratory (MIBL).

Congrats to Pengyuan Xiu
Congratulations to Pengyuan Xiu for completing his prospectus exam titled, “Dislocation loop and microchemical evolution in ion irradiated structural materials for advanced reactor applications.” This work examined the microstructural and microchemical evolution in Ni-based, FeCrAl, and additive manufactured alloys and highlighted Pengyuan’s expertise in microscopy and characterization.

T.M. Kelsy Green wins best paper award
Kelsy Green’s paper titled, “Microstructural tailoring of ferritic/martensitic grade 91 steel using wire arc additive manufacturing” was selected among the twenty-five most outstanding ones of International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) 2020.

Congrats to Gabriella Bruno for completing her first irradiation in the Michigan Ion Beam Laboratory as part of her work within the SNAP project! The irradiation was a dual beam irradiation completed to 70.
